Perfect means no mistakes and no hints. Your streak counts the days in a row you solved at least one case.

A new case arrives every day at midnight Japan time, and past cases stay open. Difficulty follows the day of the week: ★ on Monday and Tuesday, ★★ Wednesday to Friday, ★★★ on weekends.

How to play

How a case goes

  1. When a case opens, you learn how many culprits there are. All 20 classmates start as suspects, seated in alphabetical order.
  2. One of them was somewhere else when it happened, so the investigation starts with what they tell you.
  3. Tap a suspect and choose Innocent or Culprit. You can only decide once the testimony proves it, and a guess counts as a mistake even when it's right.
  4. Each innocent classmate you clear gives you new testimony. Culprits say nothing, so catching one gives you no new clue.
  5. Catch every culprit to close the case, and each one confesses in a line.

Reading the testimony

Everything a witness says is true. A number always means exactly that many, never "at least". Seats are described like this:

Around
The seats touching it, including diagonals (up to 8)
Between
The seats in the same row or column with one person on each side
In front / behind, left / right
In front and behind count the same column only, left and right the same row only
Row N from the front
One row across (4 seats). The front is the blackboard side
Column N from the left
One column down (5 seats)
Edge, middle, corners
The 14 edge seats, the middle 6 seats, the 4 corner seats
… duty
Only the classmates on that duty (shown at the top left of each card)

You will also hear alibis ("Mia isn't the culprit. We were together the whole time"), pairs ("Exactly one of Ben and Zoe is a culprit") and comparisons ("There are more culprits in the seats around Ivy than in the seats around Sam").

Tips

  • A count that is already filled is a strong clue. If "there's exactly 1 culprit in the seats around me" and you have already caught that one, everyone else around is innocent.
  • The number of culprits is a clue too. Once you have found them all, every remaining suspect is innocent.
  • When one statement isn't enough, look where two of them overlap. If one says "exactly 1 culprit" and the other says "no culprit", the culprit sits outside the overlap.
  • For comparisons, drop the seats both sides share. What's left is easier to read.
  • Tap an innocent classmate to light up the seats their testimony is about. Used-up testimony fades out, so read the bright ones first.
  • Stuck? Hint lights up the testimony that settles someone when put together. You can still solve the case, but it no longer counts as perfect.

Daily cases and difficulty

A new case arrives every day at midnight Japan time. Monday and Tuesday have 2 culprits and only simple testimony (★). Wednesday to Friday add in front, behind and between (★★). Weekends have 3 culprits and comparisons (★★★). Past cases stay open in Case files. Every case is built so that logic alone solves it, whatever order you go in.

Records and sharing

Solved cases, perfect solves (no mistakes, no hints) and your streak are kept on this device. Share your result on X or LINE: the culprits' names are left out, and only the seats where you slipped show up in yellow. Switch the names between People and Animals any time; the puzzle is the same either way.
